  • The usefulness of bone density testing for diagnosing osteoporosis
  • Assessing fracture risk
  • Monitoring response to treatment
  • Interpretation of BMD tests in young adults and children
     

Educational goals
At the end of the session, attendees will

  • be comfortable using of bone density testing, in conjunction with and without other risk factors in assessing fracture risk
  • understand the usefulness and limitations of serial BMD testing in monitoring response to osteoporosis treatments
  • appreciate the special challenges in interpreting BMD values in children
     

Target audience

  • Clinicians who care for patients with osteoporosis
  • Physicians who perform and interpret bone density tests
  • Other health care providers involved in the management of patients with or at risk for osteoporosis

Teaching methods
Discussion will be centered on cases encountered in daily practice.
Audience will be invited and encouraged to present their cases and clinical questions for discussion.
