ECTS Academy Events at #ECTS2025. By Drenka Trivanovic

This year the ECTS Academy celebrates its 10th anniversary and looks forward to the forthcoming ECTS Annual Meeting in Innsbruck, taking place from 23rd to 25th May 2024.

This year the academy turns 10 years old! For this reason, Chairs of the Academy, dr Jeroen Geurts (Switzerland) and Michaela Tencerová (Czechia) prepared the ECTS Academy Anniversary session. History of the Academy, achievements, exchange program and intra-academy collaborations will be presented on the session scheduled for Saturday, May 24th.

“Alternative models for studying bone properties” is the title of the Open Fora (scheduled for Friday, May 23rd) session organized by the ECTS Academy member, Steve Stegen (Belgium). During this session, we will have opportunity to hear talks given by Ioannis Papantoniou (Belgium), Jeroen Geurts (Switzerland) and Giovanni Adami (Italy). Open Fora is chaired by ECTS Academy members, Verena Fisher (basic) and Charlotte Verroken (clinical).

The Academy organized NI Mentoring session (scheduled for Saturday, May 24th). In the interactive atmosphere, four topics will be discussed with young researchers including 1) Networking for professional development: benefits of serving scientific societies; 2) Transition to Independence; 3) Academy versus Industry; and 4) Scientific dissemination and outreach. Experts in their field, Hanna Taipaleenmäki (Germany), Katharina Jähn-Rickert (Germany), Tiina Kähkönen (Finland), Steven Stegen will share their experiences to foster careers of new investigators.

One of the most dynamic sessions on ECTS, NI Seminar and Gathering is designed to provide new researchers a unique opportunity to present their work through short talks. This year, NI Seminar and Gathering session is scheduled for Sunday, May 25th.

In total oral presentation of 5-6 selected abstracts submitted by young basic and clinical investigators will be scored and awarded. The session will be chaired by Franziska Knopf (basic) and Tim Rolvien (clinical).

Additionally, 5-6 abstracts selected for poster presentations will be presented, scored and awarded within the Poster Forum session, scheduled for Monday, May 26th. The session will be chaired by Christina Møller Andreasen (basic) and Anda Mihaela Naciu (clinical). Moderators of session are Felix von Brackel (basic) and Jakob Starup-Linde (clinical).

This year, we are connecting the ECTS Academy Lounge with the ECTS Booth to enhance attendance at the lounge and foster valuable connections among researchers at all stages of their careers. ECTS Academy members, Anne Sophie Sølling, Biagio Palmisano and Charlotte Verroken are organizers of ECTS Academy Lounge 2025.

The mission of ECTS is to expand its humanitarian activities through interesting content. This year, ECTS Academy is participating in the organization of Charity Event 2025 “Let’s play Ice Stock Game for Osteogenesis Imperfecta Austria”. All interested attendees can register on ECTS 2025 webpage (see Networking & Social event). All funds are donated to Osteogenesis Imperfecta Austria. The Charity Event 2025 is scheduled for Saturday, May 24th  in Orangerie. Do not miss networking on ice stock lanes!
