Meet the Professor
Paddy Ross
Osteoclast culture - techniques and applications
Topics to be covered
Methods for isolation of osteoclast precursors and use
thereof to generate osteoclasts in vitro.
Methods for analysis of cytokine-stimulated osteoclast
signaling.
Approaches to meaningful assay in vitro of osteoclast
differentiation, morphology and function.
Use of retro- lenti- and adenoviral approaches to introduce
proteins into osteoclasts and/or their precursors.
Educational Goals
At the end of the discussion attendees will:
- Understand the cellular and molecular basis of osteoclast differentiation.
- Have detailed protocols for generating osteoclasts, performing signal
transduction studies and analyzing osteoclast function.
Target audience
Basic scientists interested in performing experiments in
osteoclast biology.
Teaching methods
Discussion of studies performed in the laboratories of
leading osteoclast researchers.
