Bone regeneration
1. Topics to be covered:
- Principles of bone regeneration;
- Hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis hormones (FSH and TSH) in bone
remodeling;
- The role of prostaglandin and prostaglandin receptor analogs in regulating
bone formation;
- The use of bone graft substitutes to induce and enhance bone regeneration.
2. Educational goals:
To discuss principles of bone regeneration with particular
reference to:
- inductive signals;
- responding cells;
- biocompatible matrix.
3. Target audience:
- undergraduate students and postdoctoral fellows in skeletal biology;
- residents in orthopedics and traumatology;
- bone biologists from pharmaceutical companies looking for new drugs
to regenerate bone.
4. Teaching methods:
Topics will be covered by interactive informal discussion
and by simple drawings.
