The Chinese Society of osteoporosis and Bone Mineral Research (CSOBMR) was founded in 2001 under the Chinese Medical Association. In addition to the committee, CSOBMR also has a youth Committee and seven specialized scientific groups, such as metabolic bone disease, secondary osteoporosis, diagnosis and quality control, basic and translational medical research, bone and arthrology, community osteoporosis, continuing education and popular science. Currently, CSOBMR has approximately 1000 active members. These experts are among the best in their fields, including endocrinology, orthopaedics, rheumatology, obstetrics and gynecology, geriatrics and nephrology. Our members greatly enrich and promote the development of the Society and make contributions to the basic and clinical research of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.
CSOBMR has an official journal, Chinese Journal of Osteoporosis and Bone Mineral Research (CJOBMR). The journal is issued by the Society and mainly publishes the research progress, new technology and achievements of research on the basis, clinic and prevention of osteoporosis and bone mineral disease. It also introduces the latest progress in China and abroad, promotes academic exchanges and improves the research level in this field in China.
National and international academic conferences on osteoporosis and bone mineral disease, in cooperation with the International Chinese Hard Tissue Society (ICHT), are held alternately every other year, in order to ensure timely understanding of international academic frontiers and improve the domestic clinical and scientific research level. CSOBMR has successfully organized 11 academic conferences for young and middle-aged investigators, 9 national and international conferences respectively since 2001. This year the 10th national conference will be held in October in Yinchuan, China, and the 10th international conference (International Conference of Osteoporosis and Bone Research, ICOBR) will be held in 2020 in Hangzhou, China. Colleagues from all over the world are welcomed to attend this conference.
Furthermore, CSOBMR has issued several clinical guidelines and expert consensus to regulate and guide clinical diagnosis and treatment:
- Guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of primary osteoporosis (2017)
- Consensus on clinical application of vitamin D and its analogues (2018)
- Expert consensus on diagnosis, treatment and management of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (2018)
- Consensus on perioperative diagnosis and management of osteoporotic fractures (2018)
- Guidelines for clinical diagnosis and management of hypoparathyroidism (2018)
- Guidelines for clinical diagnosis and management of hyperparathyroidism (2016)
- Guidelines for clinical diagnosis and treatment of osteogenesis imperfecta(2019)
- Guidelines for community diagnosis and treatment of primary osteoporosis(2019)
More importantly, CSOBMR is closely connected with ECTS. Under the leadership of Professor Xia Wei-bo, the former president of the Society, some colleagues of the Society have attended ECTS annual meeting every year since 2016. This year, Professor Xia, together with Professor Li Mei, the president-elect, held a special meeting with ECTS leaders to discuss continuing education and academic exchanges, and initially determined the future direction of cooperation between ECTS and CSOMR in Budapest. CSOMR is looking forward to more opportunities for academic exchanges between the two societies in the future.
