You are advised to bring a backup copy in case of any problems with your file.

Advance submission of slides

We request all speakers (invited speakers and oral communications presenters) to send us your PowerPoint presentation(s) in advance. Uploading your presentation via the web will avoid delays at the meeting and will ensure in advance that your slides are compatible with the projection system.

The on-line slide centre will be available from 1 March 2006.

Presenters will be sent a User name and Password by the technician.

We can accept PowerPoint files (extension .ppt or .pps) and the file can include linked video(s) (standard video formats are supported).

Once you have uploaded your files they will be checked by a technician to ensure that the file can be read, that no corruption has occurred and that any video links are working. You will then receive a confirmation email. You will be able to check your files at the Speaker Preview Room at the meeting.

This on-line submission system will remain available until 18.00 on Friday 5 May.

After this date, you will need to upload your files directly at the on-site Speaker Preview Room.

At the meeting

There will be facilities for you to view and edit your presentation in the Speaker Preview Room.

Presenters are asked to check their Power Point presentations to the Speaker Preview Room at least two hours before the session (or the day before for morning sessions). Your presentation will then be transferred to the central server.

All presentations will be deleted from the server at the end of the meeting unless otherwise requested.

The Speaker Preview Room, located on the ground floor close to the entrance of the conference rooms, will be open at the following hours:

Wednesday 10 May 12.00 – 19.00
Thursday 11 May 08.00 – 18.00
Friday 12 May 08.00 – 18.00
Saturday 13 May 08.00 – 18.00
Sunday 14 May 08.00 – 12.00

Presentation times

Please refer to your correspondence with the meeting organisers if you uncertain about how long you have been allocated for your talk.

  • Invited speakers: 30 minutes total, 25 for presentation and 5 for questions
  • Oral communications: 12 minutes total, 8 for presentation and 4 for questions
  • Short orals: 5 minutes total, 3 for presentation and 2 for questions
  • Clinical cases: 15 minutes total, 8 for presentation and 7 for discussion

Short orals

  • Timekeeping is even more important
  • Sit in the front row of the auditorium and be ready to move quickly to the stage as the previous speaker is finishing
  • 3 slides maximum

Slide content and design

  • Material on slides must be of an adequate size to be seen clearly by all delegates.
  • It is recommended that each slide contains no more than seven lines of text and no more than seven words per line.
  • If showing graphs, tables or charts:
  • Do not make them too crowded
  • Complex figures should be broken up into series
  • Limit the number of captions
  • Use rounded figures
  • As a rough guide, we suggest you allow no more than two slides per minute of your talk.
  • Slides are easier to read when there is a high contrast between the text and the background. Yellow or white text on a mid to dark blue background works particularly well. Avoid black text on a white background (eg. photographs of typed pages).

Disclosure of interest

The intent of ECTS is to provide high-quality sessions focused on educational content that is free from commercial influence or bias. We request all presenters to cooperate in this by:

  1. Declaring any potential conflict of interest on a Disclosure of Interest form - please read the instructions and inform us through the form if you have an affiliation to declare (deadline 10 February).
  2. Declaring any commercial role in your research on your slides or poster - if the research was supported by a pharmaceutical company you must indicate the company’s role in analysing the data or preparing the slides.
