needs, with a particular focus on assisting new investigators to

2009 INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH PRIZE OF THE AUSTRIAN SOCIETY
FOR BONE MINERAL RESEARCH
During the Opening Ceremony on Saturday 23 May the 2009 International
Research Prize of the Austrian Society for Bone Mineral Research
was awarded to Professor
Erwin Wagner (Madrid, Spain). This prize of €7500 is a
continuation of the Chemofux prizes, sponsored by Meda Pharma GmbH.
Chosen by an International Jury, it acknowledges an individual whose
recent work in the fields of molecular, cellular, (patho) physiological
or clinical aspects of bone and mineral metabolism has resulted

ECTS/AMGEN BONE BIOLOGY FELLOWSHIP
This award, established in collaboration with Amgen, is a three-year
fellowship programme awarded to a scientist at the beginning of
their career to conduct research into basic or clinical aspects

ECTS/SERVIER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP 2009 - NEW
The ECTS is pleased to announce the first ECTS/Servier Research
Fellowship which is available to European ECTS members within 10
years of attaining their PhD/MD at the time of application. Click

ECTS/ALLIANCE FOR BETTER BONE HEALTH IAIN T BOYLE AWARD
This award is open to new scientists who have made significant progress
and contribution to the field of bone and calcified tissues. The
award is in memory of Professor Iain Thomson Boyle (1935-2001) who
contributed greatly to the field of mineral metabolism and his work
on osteoporosis was known and acclaimed nationally and internationally.

ECTS EXCELLENCE IN CLINICAL RESEARCH
LECTURE
This honorary lecture, chosen by the ECTS Board, acknowledges the
significant contribution of the individual to the field. This year
it was awarded to Professor
Lorenz Hofbauer (Dresden, Germany) who presented the lecture
‘Clinical evidence for interaction between diabetes and bone’.

POSTER PRIZES
Following the introduction of this new initiative at Barcelona,
four ECTS Poster Prizes of €250 will be awarded at the Vienna
conference. The top 20 highest scoring posters (including oral-posters)
from eligible authors will be judged by a panel of reviewers at
the conference. Eligible posters will be identified with a sign
