Dr. Carola Zillikens, M.D., PhD

Carola Zillikens, MD, PhD, is associate Professor and staff member at the Department of Internal Medicine, section Endocrinology, of Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Dr Zillikens founded, and heads, the Erasmus MC Bone Center, a multidisciplinary expertise center for patients with common and rare disorders of calcium and bone metabolism. She has been President of the Dutch Society for Calcium and Bone Metabolism for the last 6 years and a Board Member of ECTS for the last three years where she chaired the Professional Practice Committee. She is actively involved in the Steering committee of the European Reference Network for rare bone disorders. Her research topics concern the (genetic) background of unexplained familial osteoporosis, rare bone disorders and atypical femur fractures and the relation of osteoporosis with chronic diseases and mortality. She is principal investigator in several multi-center trials on treatment of osteoporosis and has co-authored over 190 papers in high-impact journals.
