Course Description

This two-day training course – a new initiative from the European Calcified Tissue Society (ECTS) – is specifically designed for clinicians in training with an interest in the field of mineral metabolism and metabolic bone diseases, including osteoporosis.

The programme will provide participants with the fundamental and advanced knowledge in clinical skills for the evaluation and management of patients with a metabolic bone disease.

Delegates will gain a comprehensive understanding of diagnostic tools and treatment options.

The training course will combine state-of-the-art lectures with discussion of instances and cases. The course will offer ample opportunities for networking and sharing ideas

Learning Objectives

The 2024 training course will develop over two-full days training and will:

• Understand Bone Metabolism:
  – Provide foundational knowledge on bone metabolism, focusing on both general and specific aspects across different life stages.
•  Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approaches:
  – Discuss and illustrate key points in the diagnosis and treatment of metabolic bone diseases including anabolic treatments.
• Different Aspects of Osteoporosis:
  – Address various forms of osteoporosis, including pediatric, premenopausal, male, and geriatric osteoporosis, and their respective treatment strategies.
• Advances in Osteomalacia:
  – Explore the latest advancements in the understanding and treatment of osteomalacia, including differentiation from osteoporosis and management of conditions like XLH and hypophosphatasia.
• Bone Health in Challenging Situations:
  – Address bone health issues in challenging contexts such as obesity, malnutrition, and cancer, and provide insights into specialized treatment options.
• Interactive Learning and Networking:
  – Offer interactive opportunities for participants to engage in discussions, share experiences, and network with experts and peers in the field.

CME Accreditation

The ECTS Clinical Training Course on Metabolic Bone Diseases has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) for a maximum of 12 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

The CME credits can be obtained either for online participation during the days of the training course or for on demand participation during and post event. The validity of the accreditation of recordings made available on demand will only be for a period of 3 months after the event has taken place.

A short online survey should also be performed before the certificate is sent.

Registration Cancellation and insurance

In any event beyond ECTS control, including war, strikes, lockouts, riots and other civil disturbances, nature events such as earthquakes, floods and droughts, virus outbreaks and any other causes or circumstance of whatsoever nature beyond its control that have an impact on the arrangements, timetables or planning of the meeting, ECTS and/or its agents have the right to immediately alter or cancel the meeting or any of the arrangements, timetables, plans or other items relating directly or indirectly to the meeting. The participants shall not be entitled to any compensation for damages that result from such alteration or cancellation.  The liability of the organisers will be limited to the refund and they will not be liable for any other losses incurred.

In addition, the organisers shall not be held liable for any personal accidents, illness, losses or damage to private property of delegates registered for the course. Delegates are therefore advised to take out their own comprehensive insurance.

Any cancellation must be made in writing and sent to dorota.doszko@ectsoc.org. For cancellations received by 1 October 2024, fees will be refunded less an administration fee of €30.00. No refunds will be made after this date.
