ECTS 2020 (16-19 May 2020 with a pre-congress day on 15 May 2020) is fast approaching! This year, conference delegates will travel to the cosmopolitan city of Marseille, France for the 47th annual congress of the European Calcified Tissue Society.
The congress brings together world-renowned experts, researchers, clinicians and allied health professionals (AHPs) to create an influential forum for knowledge exchange. Delegates will have the opportunity to discuss the latest advances in musculoskeletal research and state-of-the-art clinical care of patients with calcified tissue and related disorders.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife” in honour of the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. To celebrate this occasion, the ECTS2020 congress will include, for the first time, a dedicated AHP Programme.
ECTS recognises the role of the nurse and AHP in leading initiatives to improve education, standards and ultimately the care for patients with metabolic bone diseases. For more than 10 years, the ECTS Annual Congress has included specific activities for AHPs. This year, we are delighted to present a two-day programme tailored to meet the educational needs of the AHP. The AHP programme committee members and session chairs are pleased to invite you to participate in this exciting programme of expert-led lectures and meet the expert sessions.
Day 1 of the AHP programme begins (Saturday 16 May, 10:30 – 12:15) with ‘AHP Seminar session 1’. This comprises a series of theory-based presentations. Firstly, we will begin with an overview of ‘Bone Biology’ presented by Professor Martina Rauner (Dresden, Germany). Lectures on ‘ Pathophysiology of Metabolic Bone Diseases’ (Professor Peter Pietschmann, Vienna, Austria), ‘Epidemiology of Osteoporotic Fractures’ (Professor Andrea Burden, Zurich, Switzerland) will follow. There will opportunities to aks questions.
Day 2 of the AHP programme (Sunday 17 May, 08:00 – 10:15) comprises a series of more practically-based presentations. We will begin with the ‘Principles of Bone Imaging for the Diagnosis of Metabolic Bone Diseases’ presented by Professor Claus Glüer (Kiel, Germany). This will be followed by ‘Measurement of Bone Turnover Markers’ (Professor Richard Eastell, Sheffield UK), ‘Using FRAX to Calculate Fracture Risk’ (Professor Eugene McCloskey, Sheffield, UK), ‘Identifying Osteoporotic Vertebral Fractures’ (Dr Margaret Paggiosi, Sheffield, UK), and finally, ‘Interpreting and Reporting Patient Results’ (Professor Franz Kainberger, Vienna, Austria).
The afternoon of Day 2 provides delegates with the opportunity to ‘Meet the AHP Expert’ during an interactive ‘Discuss the Case’ session led by Dr Mette Juel Rothmann (Odense, Denmark).
More detailed information about the AHP programme will be available soon. We encourage all delegates to check the congress website, https://www.ects2020.org to get the most out of your congress attendance.
We look forward to meeting you in Marseille.
