The ECTS Grants and Awards Action Group, composed by Prof Salvatore Minisola (chair), Prof Anna Teti (co-chair), Prof Pawel Szulc (member), Prof Roger Gomis (member), Prof Amina Valjevac (member) and Prof Christina Møller Andreasen (ECTS Academy member), is pleased to inform the ECTS community that we received several applications for the ECTS Best Articles Award (basic, translational and clinical), to be recognised during the ECTS 2025 congress in Innsbruck (23rd-26th May, 2025). The aim of these awards is to acknowledge the excellence of New Investigators in the field of bone disease research. The ECTS released three calls, for clinical, basic and translated into clinical relevance articles. The eligible articles have been published (or accepted for publication) during the period of June 2023-October 2024 and are being evaluated by the Grants & Awards Action Group members and external reviewers for their scientific merit, originality and significance. The awardees will be announced during the ECTS 2025 Congress, on Saturday May 24th 2025, in Room Tirol, at 16:00hr. They will deliver 10-minutes presentations to illustrate the highlights of their articles.
During the ECTS 2025 Congress, 6 named awards will also be presented. Candidates have been nominated and they are currently under evaluation by the Grants & Awards Action Group members and external reviewers. During the ECTS 2025, slots have been reserved for the presentation of the winners. These awards include:
- ECTS-Kyowa Kirin Maria Luisa Bianchi Clinical Research Award in memory of Maria Luisa Bianchi, to remember and honour her internationally recognised expertise in the field of paediatric and rare bone diseases, including research, education and patient care (24th May 2025, Room Tirol, 15:00hr).
- ECTS Steven Boonen Clinical Research Award in memory of Steven Boonen, to remember and honour his internationally recognised expertise in the field of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease, including bone disease research, education and patient care (24th May 2025, Room Tirol, 15:30hr.
- ECTS Philippe Bordier Clinical Award in memory of Philippe Bordier and in recognition of his significant contributions to the bone field by developing bone histomorphometry applied to the analysis of bone diseases (25th May 2025, Awardee wall, 12:15hr).
- ECTS Mike Horton Basic/Translational Award in memory of Mike Horton, a haematologist-turned-basic scientist who performed pioneering work in osteoclast biology making significant contributions to the field of bone resorption (25th May 2025, Awardee wall, 12:15hr).
- ECTS Iain T Boyle Award in memory of Iain T Boyle who contributed to the field of mineral metabolism and osteoporosis (25th May 2025, Awardee wall, 12:15hr).
- ECTS Excellence in Research in recognition of an ECTS 2025 invited speaker who is contributing to substantially advance the field of musculoskeletal research (to be announced).
Finally, the ECTS Congress Awards will be offered to New Investigators and Allied Health Professionals with high scoring abstract submitted to ECTS annual congress (26th May 2025, Room Tirol, 15:20hr).
These awards will contribute to the ECTS 2025 excellence, recognising ECTS members for their effort in advancing the knowledge in the musculoskeletal research field. The ECTS Grants & Awards Action group invites ECTS 2025 delegates to join the award ceremonies to applaud and honour the awardees.
