For the upcoming digital congress of the ECTS, the ECTS Academy is organizing several events, especially for new and young investigators, but of course we invite everyone to join!
The ECTS Academy activities will take place both during Live Prime Time, on May 6th-8th 2021, as well as during the interactive ECTS@Home events on May 19th-20th and June 10th-11th and June 18th 2021.
The first session organized by the Academy during the Live Prime Time, will be the Poster Forum Sessions (May 8th, 16:45-17.45). Six basic and six clinical research posters authored by young investigators will be highlighted, providing a great opportunity for new investigators to discuss their data during a live Q&A session.
Also on May 8th, the New Investigator Seminar and Gathering event will take place (19:00-20:00). During this interactive session, the six basic and clinical highest ranking abstracts from new investigators have been selected, and the selected delegates will present their data during an oral seminar, followed by live questions from the audience.
In addition, during the ePoster visits (May 6th and 7th, 12:30-13:30, and May 8th, 11:30-12.15), the ECTS Academy organizes a virtual Poster tour of abstracts selected as posters. Presenters will have the opportunity to raise interest in their research by providing a brief data description and discussion.
During the ECTS@Home events, on May 19th (9:00-10:00), the Next Generation Synergy session will take place and introduce you to collaborations with young investigator societies from Japan (Yuuki Imai, JSBMR) and Australia and New Zealand (Shabashini Ramchand, ANZBMS). We are also excited to introduce new collaborations with young investigators from the Italian Bone Forum, the Orthopaedic Research Society International Section of Fracture Repair, and the Sub-Saharan African MuSculOskeletal Network. Representatives from the respective societies will explain how young investigators organize themselves and work together to promote their research and clinical activities. Hearing about each other’s societies will inspire new ideas and initiatives and will certainly lead to new future collaborations!
Immediately after, the Academy will host the New Investigator Mentoring session, where seven highly estreemed leaders in our field will share their experience and thoughts on diverse ‘How to’s…’ such as ‘How to get or not get a grant’ by Bjorn Busse, ‘How to get your data published’ by Bente Langdahl, and ‘How to balance work and life’ by Nadia Rucci. As always a very interactive, useful and fun event! In addition, the mentoring program, giving new investigators the opportunity to be coupled to a mentor of their choice from the ECTS for a year full of coaching, will be explained. Application to this program is possible through the website!
On May 20th (14:00-16:00), the Working Group on Mammalian Models: Pre-clinical mouse models in musculoskeletal research will be organized by the ECTS Academy. During the past ECTS congresses this session attracted a large audience, successfully dealing with a broad range of topics related to animal models in musculoskeletal research. This year an overview of animal models for fracture healing will be given by Melanie Haffner-Luntzer, while Enrico Dall’Ara will explain how to integrate murine and computational models. Then, Anja Hauser will describe up-to-date intravital imaging techniques. This working group will surely stimulate vibrant discussions on Basic/Translational aspects of bone research.
The ECTS Academy is also organizing a virtual charity event, more information on this can be found in a separate article in this newsletter, but please join us in supporting the dedicated charity.
We are looking forward to meeting you all during the digital conference and we hope we have been able to create an interesting program for everyone and especially the new investigators! In case you have any questions on how to get the most out of your ECTS conference experience, you are also more than welcome to join us during our live Academy Coffeeshop @ April 23rd 16.00 with Baristas Ciro Menale, Annegreet Vlug and Elena Tsourdi!
