This year, we will be holding a 2-day training course in metabolic bone diseases at The Edge conference facility in Sheffield on September 29 to 30 September 2022. We held a course in 2021 that was online. The attendees reported back on how useful they found this even though it was online. We had 40 attendees and they really appreciated the interactive nature of the course with its workshops and case discussions.
The course that will be held this year will have different topics and different speakers. We will discuss the regulation of serum calcium and phosphate in health and then consider disorders of their metabolism in both lecture and in workshop format. We will discuss chronic kidney disease-metabolic bone disorder and glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis in workshop format. We will discuss the less common forms of osteoporosis such as the disorder in men and in young women. Finally, we will have a lecture on malignant bone disease. The lectures will be given by experts from throughout Europe including Denmark, Germany, France and the UK and will be delivered in English. The course was meant for doctors in training, but I attended all the meeting last year (after my 45 years of clinical experience) and I learnt a lot. It is also suitable for professions allied to medicine and to those from industry wanting a clinical update.
