Dear ECTS members,
As previously announced, the ECTS PhD training course 2022 has taken place from 4 to 7 July at the International Center of Valbonne, Nice, with a beautiful view on the Côte d’Azur. This year the course has been restored in the classical “in-person” mode and has gathered 51 students from 15 different countries and 19 speakers overall throughout the course, in an informal environment.
Besides basics of bone biology, the course has covered diverse topics including
- mechanical stimulation, gravity, and regenerative medicine of bone
- effects of inflammation, nutrition, and microbiota on bone
- state-of-the-art technologies in imaging and OMICS analysis of the bone tissue
- communication between bone and other tissues (including the vascular tissue)
- bone marrow niches in health and cancer
Attendees have shown interest and curiosity to the proposed subjects, and commitment towards research. They have animated all sessions with lively discussion, also including students’ oral and poster presentations, and co-chaired the lectures. At the end of the day, the quiz via Slido has been an entertaining way to verify learning outcomes among students…and speakers, too!
Mentoring has been carried out in a friendly atmosphere, while having a drink at night, dinner by the sea at Mombasa beach and during a refreshing break in the CIV pool. Moreover, the talks on career development and on the dilemma between academy and industry have been provoking and provided food for thoughts to all the attendees.
Now that the course is over, we wish to thank the other members of the Local Organizing Committee (David Moulin, Donata Iandolo, Yohann Wittrant and Jérôme Guicheux), a close and vibrant team displaying complementarity and inclusiveness, and to the ECTS Education Committee chair Nuria Guanabens, for her dedication to organizing educational activities for young ECTS members.
Thanks to all the speakers for their inspiring talks and their availability to interact with the students.
Thanks to Roberta Mugnai and her young collaborator Rauna Graulus for their supportive and discreet presence and high efficiency.
Most of all, thanks to all the students for their enthusiasm and passion, which we wish will grow even further within the ECTS activities and proactively contribute to the Society’s mission.
Au revoir to all to the forthcoming ECTS events!
