Plenary sessions are among the core components of every ECTS congress. These sessions deal with current topics of the bone and mineral field and are composed of a basic and a clinical lecture given by prominent speakers. For the 2025 congress the following topics were chosen: multiple myeloma, skeletal neurobiology, systems bone biology and bone metabolism in kidney diseases.
Further highlights at ECTS are the ECTS-ASBMR clinical debate, the basic debate and the big clinical and basic sessions. The basic debate will deal with the resorption mode of the osteoclasts, the clinical debate will discuss bone fragility in type-2 diabetes. The big basic session will address non-traditional models for bone reasearch (zebrafish as a model for skeletal genophenomics, novel in vitro models). The big clinical session deals with parathyroid hormone receptor agonists for the treatment of metabolic bone diseases. The speakers will cover hypoparathryoidism and anabolic treatment of osteoporosis.
In my experience, another highlight of every ECTS congress is the poster session. In the posters the latest, yet unpublished, data of the bone/musculoskeletal field are communicated. In the sessions it is possible to interact with the poster presenters in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, to discuss scientific results in detail and perhaps to start new scientific collaborations.
I am very much looking foward to meet you in Innsbruck
