The main ECTS congress 2024 will be preceded by the pre-congress day (Friday, May 24th, 2024). The pre-congress day is part of the ancillary programme of the ECTS congress and is composed of a series of interactive workshops, open fora and seminars on specific basic/translational and clinical topics. It is a perfect opportunity to network and to discuss the latest developments in the field in a very friendly atmosphere.
The National Day was organized by Martine Cohen-Solal, the chair of the local organizing committee. Current basic and clinical topics will be presented by leading experts from the host country (France). The first part of the National Day will deal with the relevance of nutrition and aging for bone health; in the second part, four European research consortia related to bone diseases will be presented.
Richard Eastell and Roland Chapurlat will chair the ECTS-Mellanby training course on the clinical use of bone turnover markers. Participants of this training will receive an in-depth introduction to the topic; in addition, a variety of practical applications in osteoporosis and further metabolic bone diseases will be discussed.
Attendees of the pre-congress day will have the opportunity to participate in six open fora proposed by the members of ECTS:
- Bone marrow adiposity, stem cells and hematopoietic interactions within the bone marrow niche
- New insights in the interaction between osteoclasts and their environment
- Multiscale imaging and analytics of interfaces in musculoskeletal health
- Bone mechanobiology in mice
- The interaction of glucocorticoids in rheumatic diseases
- Diabetes and bone
The ECTS-CABS (Cancer & Bone Society) joint workshop will address current basic and clinical aspects of bone metastases. The workshop “Nanoscale imaging of skeletal tissue” was organized in collaboration with the International Society of Bone Morphometry (ISBM). Further workshops will deal with abdominal aortic calcification and fish models for musculoskeletal research (“FishBone” workshop).
I hope I have been able to give you a flavour of the event. Personally, in the past years I enjoyed attending the pre-congress day very much; it was inspiring!
Many thanks to the organizers and speakers for all their efforts!
I am very much looking forward to meet you in Marseille.
