Welcome to our New Board Members! By Peter Pietschmann

At the 2025 Annual General Meeting of the ECTS four new board members were introduced: Martine Cohen-Solal, President elect; Martina Rauner, Secretary; Polyzois Makras: Treasurer; and Jakob Starup-Linde, ECTS academy representative.

Martine Cohen-Solal is a Professor of Cell Biology (University Paris Cité), a physician at the Rheumatology Department (Lariboisiere Hospital) and director of the Inserm research unit “Biology of Bone and Cartilage BIOSCAR”, Lariboisiere Hospital, Paris, France. Martine is a clinician specialized in bone research with a strong background in basic research. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated  to the investigation of bone diseases, and more recently, rare bone diseases. She is committed to tackle clinical issues by combining clinical and bone biology approaches to provide an integrated view of bone and mineral disorders. Martine was an ECTS board member from 2011 to 2017 and is currently a member of the scientific committee of Inserm.

Martina Rauner is a Professor for Molecular Bone Biology and the scientific director of the Bone Lab at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. Starting from osteoimmunology, Martina expanded her research to chronic inflammatory diseases and Wnt signaling. Currently, her group is particularly interested in the interactions of bone with hematopoiesis and hormones, and studies the role of Wnt and BMP signaling. Martina is a founding member of the ECTS Academy and served at the ECTS board from 2012 to 2018. She currently is President elect of the German Osteology Society.

Polyzois Makras is a consultant endocrinologist, director of the Endocrinology Department and director of the Department of Medical Research and of the National Expert Center for Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) and Erdheim Chester Disease; Hellenic Air Force & VA General Hospital of Athens, Greece. During the last 18 years he has been engaged in research in disorders of calcium and bone metabolism as well as in rare diseases (mainly LCH and other non-Langerhans histiocytoses). Polyzois is a former President of the Hellenic Society for the Study of Bone Metabolism and member of the Committee of Scientific Advisors of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF).

Jakob Starup-Linde is a clinical physician at the Department of Medicine, Regional Hospital Horsens, and the Department of Endocrinology, Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark. His research primarily focuses on studying the mechanisms and fracture prediction in diabetic bone disease, optimizing osteoporosis treatment and preventing the progression from osteopenia to osteoporosis. Jakob is ECTS academy member since 2023 and currently a board member of the Danish Bone society.

 ECTS Board of Directors 2025/2026

I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to our new board members. Their knowledge, expertise, enthusiasm and passion are highly impressive, and I look forward to a productive collaboration for the benefit of our society.
