ECTS organised a Training Course on Bone Turnover Markers in Basel on Thursday 12 September 2019 along with the Mellanby Centre for Bone Research and the Swiss Society against Osteoporosis (SVGO).
Twenty-five participants coming from Switzerland, Germany and Spain experienced this intensive one-day training covering the practical aspects for the measurement of bone turnover markers, their sources of variability and their applications to osteoporosis, other metabolic bone diseases including the metabolic bone disease of chronic kidney disease.
There were three workshops that considered the use of bone turnover markers in the development of drugs for osteoporosis, their use in monitoring osteoporosis therapy, and their use in metabolic bone diseases, all illustrated by case descriptions.
The format of the meeting was kept small to facilitate interactions and there was active discussion throughout the day.
The training was complemented by an exhibition area where delegates were able to engage and discuss new technologies, products and services with our industry partners.
The local organiser was Professor Christian Meier (Basel) and the chairman was Professor Richard Eastell (Sheffield). The speakers and workshop leaders included Professors Marius Kraenzlin (Basel), Barbara Obermayer-Pietsch (Graz), Eugene McCloskey (Sheffield) and Dr Jennie Walsh (Sheffield).
We take the opportunity to thank all our delegates and speakers for their active participation and sponsors for their support.
More workshops are planned for 2020.
