The Hungarian Society of Osteology and Osteoarthrology. by István Takács

The Hungarian Society of Osteology and Osteoarthrology (MOOT) was founded in 1990. The Society (www.moot.hu) currently has 450 active members, mainly rheumatologists, endocrinologists and traumatologists. Since its foundation, MOOT has been playing an active role in the treatment of patients with calcium metabolism in Hungary, especially those suffering from osteoporosis. MOOT has been the first in Hungary to issue an osteoporosis professional recommendation, which has been regularly renewed by the Society ever since. Our society plays a crucial role in the development of the therapeutic financing protocol. In our annual 3-day congress, which is the most important scientific forum for doctors dealing with calcium metabolism, around 300-400 colleagues participate each year.

In addition to this, we organize several annual training events, notably the Bone Metabolism Diseases Update, an event held annually for the past 27 years that summarizes the latest results of calcium metabolism research. Our society has several member organizations, including the Denzitometry Working Group, the Young Osteologists Group. The Hungarian Osteological and Osteoarthrosis Society is a member of the the International Osteoporosis Foundation, and its members actively participate in the European Calculated Tissue Society and the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research . Our society is proud to have actively contributed for the last 30 years not only to improving the treatment of patients with bone metabolic diseases, but also to supporting the research of related diseases. From 11-14 May 2019, MOOT will be hosting the annual meeting of European Calcified Tissue Society ECTS in Budapest.
