The ECTS 2017 convention held in Salzburg (Austria) is just over. More than a thousand delegates, significant attendance of opinion leaders, speakers from all continents, hot topics and great networking made this event exceptional. Thanks to all contributors, scientific programme committee members, staff and supporters. We are so happy to have delighted you.
Now time out. Let us breathe for a moment: the coach has changed but the game continues in the same direction. Never change a winning team. Past-President Claus Glüer made the ECTS splendid again. We own him immense gratitude for his excellent leadership and gigantic passion. Current President Anna Teti took over at the end of the ECTS 2017 convention…
For the next 3 years I will lead the ECTS, building on Claus superb effort. My keywords will be: tradition and innovation. Tradition, to continue the ECTS programme and fulfil its mission to promote excellence in research into the field of calcified tissues within Europe (and beyond). Innovation, to look ahead and pursue the ambitious objective to train a new generation of first-class bone scientists and clinicians, who will in turn continue the ECTS tradition. I aim at establishing a virtuous circle that will bridge the generations and will safeguard the centrality of the calcified tissues in the upcoming biomedical research.
My strategic plans will build on Prof Glüer presidency as follows:
- Establish scientific bridges between Europe and the other continents
- Collaborate with the other societies involved in calcified tissue research to voice our needs and progress towards global excellence
- Strengthen the training of the next generation scientists, securing the future of the calcified tissue research
- Further develop the ECTS Academy
- Start a new programme for young investigators
- Secure funding for grants
- Implement initiatives tailored under the past presidency:
- Rare Bone Diseases programme
- Bone Anabolics programme
- Open the ECTS to sister fields
- Connective tissues, including cartilage, tendons and ligaments

- Cancer
- Paediatric diseases, genetic diseases
- Sport medicine, physical exercise and biomechanics
