Bone histomorphometry and related approaches to the study of bone

COURSE ORGANISERS

Klaus Klaushofer (Vienna, Austria)
Richard Eastell (Sheffield, UK)
Bente Langdahl (Aarhus, Denmark)

COURSE OVERVIEW

Histomorphometry has long been a very powerful tool in the resources of clinicians and basic researchers alike. It provides a wealth of information on tissue health and dynamics but has a drawback in that the information it provides is a ‘snapshot’ of the condition of the tissue at the time of biopsy.

This disadvantage is overcome when histomorphometry is combined with other techniques such as immunohistochemistry, µCT, FTIRI and computer modeling, providing a more complete picture of the tissue’s condition over time.

The purpose of this training course is to provide a state of the art overview of all these techniques, their outcomes, and what can be deduced from this information from bench to bedside. The course is designed to be of interest to rheumatologists, endocrinologists, orthopaedic surgeons, veterinarians, and basic researchers.

The ECTS Training Course has been accredited by the European Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) to provide 6 hours of European external CME credits. Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

The EACCME is an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), www.uems.net. EACCME credits are recognized by the American Medical Association towards the Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA). To convert EACCME credit to AMA PRA category credit, contact the AMA.
