Learning Goals:

  • To summarise the current evidence on the pathophysiology of osteosarcopenia focusing on the role of mechanical and biochemical factors
  • To discuss the risk factors that are shared by osteoporosis and sarcopenia
  • To review the results of recent cross sectional and longitudinal studies looking at the clinical phenotype and adverse outcomes associated to osteosarcopenia
  • To provide some examples of novel diagnostic techniques and biomarkers for osteosarcopenia
  • To review current evidence on the effect of non pharmacological and pharmacological interventions on osteosarcopenic patients

ECTS2020@home: the ECTS Annual Congress Avant Première

Following the COVID-19 oubreak, the ECTS Annual Congress in Marseille has been postponed to October 20-24 2020.

You can’t wait until then before meeting the ECTS community?  Join us for a sneak peek of ECTS 2020 during a webinar event where some ECTS 2020 keynote speakers will have the opportunity to expose their latest research to the ECTS community.

“ECTS2020@home: the ECTS Congress Avant Première will be held on Tuesday the 19th of May at 13.50 h Central European Time (CET).  

ECTS2020@Home is offered by ECTS, but registration is required.  Please confirm your attendance to this special online event here.

The program promises to be very interesting with both clinical and basic science presentations from several research areas. Prof. Natalie Sims (St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research, Melbourne, Australia) will start the session by presenting data on the role of osteocytic autophagy in bone mineralisation. Prof. Pieter Evenepoel (Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium) will talk about the assessment of bone fragility markers in chronic kidney disease. Dr. Elvire Gouze (INSERM, Nice, France) will present data on a gene therapy approach for type II collagenopathies. Prof. Michael Whyte (Shriners hospitals for children, St. Louis, USA) will conclude the webinar event by talking about therapeutic strategies to treat chronic hypophosphatemia.
