The Czech Society for Metabolic Bone Diseases will host the Mellanby Center/ECTS Training Course on Diagnostic Tests for Osteoporosis.

The course will be held in Brno, the Czech Republic, 11 May 2018.

This day-long training course will focus on the Clinical Use of Bone Turnover and will apply the scientific knowledge and research expertise developed within the Mellanby Centre to offer high quality training for clinicians, allied health professionals and laboratory scientists working in the field of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases.

The first ECTS webinar on ‘Bone, Muscle & Beyond’ will be held on the 14^th of September 2017 and will be given by Matthias Hackl, CEO and co-founder of the company TAmiRNA.

Matthias will talk about liquid biopsies and will focus on the role of miRNAs in the circulation, their correlation with endpoints of bone metabolism and potential predictive value in the clinic.

This new series of Webinars will cover practical issues on bone, muscle and other relevant topics, including basic and clinical research.  These webinars feature prominent speakers and allow participants to ask questions.

The optimal duration of osteoporosis treatment is controversial. As opposed to bisphosphonates, denosumab does not incorporate into bone matrix and bone turnover is not suppressed after its cessation. Recent reports imply that denosumab discontinuation may lead to an increased risk of multiple vertebral fractures.

The European Calcified Tissue Society (ECTS) formed a working group to perform a systematic review of existing literature on the effects of stopping denosumab and provide advice on management.

The review and position paper is published in Bone.

Associate Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Molecular Medicine: Regeneration, Replacement, and Repair in the Musculoskeletal System

The Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine (WCMM) within the medical faculty at Lund University, Sweden has its focus on Regenerative Medicine and the entire program will, over ten years (2015-2024) set up 10 tenure track positons in all. Currently being advertised is a tenure track position for an associate senior lecturer (Assistant Professor) within the field ‘Regeneration, Replacement, and Repair in the Musculoskeletal System’.

WCMM LU are aiming to recruit outstanding young scientists with international research experience, with priority given to those who have completed their PhD within the last 7 years.

The successful candidate will:

• Receive a career package of two PhD students (2x 4 year) and two post-doc positions (2x 2years) and an operational grant of SEK 1.5 million per year for four years.
• Primarily conduct research and research supervision. Teaching at the medical faculty is included (<20%), facilitating promotion to a tenure position as Snr Lecturer/Assoc Professor within 4 years.
• Initiate and maintain a strong experimental research program in synergy with on-going preclinical/clinical research into the musculoskeletal system within the faculty.
