Mellanby Centre – ECTS Training Course: Identification of Vertebral Fractures

Course overview:

Up to one in five older people will have a vertebral fracture, but most are unaware of this. Such fractures can be diagnosed by spinal radiographs but more recently, the bone densitometer has been used for this purpose: vertebral fracture assessment. The use of this technique is increasing worldwide; this course aims to give a basic training on the identification of vertebral fractures.

Target audience:

This day-long course is open to clinicians, scan technicians and nurses involved in developing and delivering fracture risk assessment services.

Objectives:

At the end of the course, participants should:

  • understand the importance of vertebral fracture identification
  • understand the principles of good quality image acquisition
  • be aware of the different methods used to identify vertebral fracture
  • recognise non-fracture vertebral deformities
  • recognise the clinical features of vertebral fracture

Participants can claim up to 8 European CME credits by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) for hours of credit that you have actually spent in the educational activity.

ECTS Annual General Meeting 2021

ECTS Annual General Meeting – 4 May 2021

The ECTS Annual General Meeting will take place on 4 May 2020 at 16:00 – 17.30hrs CET. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the meeting will be held as a virtual meeting.

The Annual General Meeting of members is your platform to hear and discuss current ECTS achievements and shape our future strategy. We are excited to share our visions and the strategic plan for the coming years.  We therefore count on your participation and we kindly ask you to confirm your attendance here. Once registered, you will receive a link to join the online meeting.

Please find the agenda for the 2021 AGM and supporting material in the AGM Lounge or in MyECTS  (for members).

All resolutions will be voted during the online meeting and the eballot will be sent to voting members one week before the event.

ECTS – ECTS Academy Coffee Shop: New investigators/ how to get the best out of the (first) ECTS meeting

ECTS Coffee Shops are a new way to bring scientists together in an informal and relaxed way to discuss topics of relevance to our field. The Coffee Shop of April will take place on 23 April, 4-5pm CET, and will be moderated by Elena Tsourdi (Dresden, Germany), Annegreet Veldhuis-Vlug (Amsterdam & Rotterdam, The Netherlands) and Ciro Menale (Naples, Italy), to discuss how an investigator who is new in the bone field  may approach  his/her (first) ECTS meeting, taking full advantage of various events organized during the congress.
  • A plethora of opportunities will be highlighted focusing on how to share data and experiences, how to get career tips from valuable mentors and how to get involved in ECTS activities.
  • Panelists will be invited to share their own experiences with regard to their first ECTS meetings and their journey within the ECTS community.

 

ECTS Coffee Shop – Use of antiresorptives in clinical practice

ECTS Coffee Shops are a new way to bring scientists together in an informal and relaxed way to discuss topics of relevance to our field.

The Coffee Shop of March will be held on 19 March 2021, 1pm-2pm CET, and will be moderated by Jean-Jacques Body & Stuart Ralston.

The session will consist of an informal chat between barristas and delegates in a relaxed atmosphere to reconnect with friends and colleagues for a topical discussion on the clinical use of inhibitors of bone resorption (bisphosphanates and denosumab) in the management of osteoporosis, Paget’s disease of bone, osteogenesis imperfecta and tumor bone disease (bone metastases and cancer treatment-induced bone loss).

Featuring: Professor Jean-Jacques Body (University Hospital Brugmann, Free University of Brussels, BE) & Professor Stuart Ralston (University of Edinburgh, Western General Hospital Edinburgh, UK).

ECTS Coffee Shops are a new way to bring scientists together in an informal and relaxed way to discuss topics of relevance to our field.

The Coffee Shop of March will be held on 1 March 2021, 12am-1pm CET, and will be moderated by Claudine Blin & Yuuki Imai.

The session will consist of an informal chat between barristas and delegates in a relaxed atmosphere to reconnect with friends and colleagues for a topical discussion about osteoclasts, osteoimmunology and what is new in the field.
